From my personal experience, it seems like there are a lot of cheesy armies out there these days. I don’t mean the armies themselves, I mean the army lists that some players put together. The good old space wolves army can also be used to make an extremely cheesy list if their players so choose. I don’t believe cheesy armies are the way to go at all. Of course this is just my opinion. If the first thing you field when you create your army is Land Raiders and terminators, you may be slightly cheesy. Ard boys tournaments tend to bring out the cheesy players. This article are my thoughts on cheesy players and cheesy Space Wolves armies.

Ever since Games Workshop started doing “Ard Boys” tournaments, Warhammer 40k Space Wolves have become cheesier. What I mean is, it seems a lot of players refuse to lose. This is pretty annoying. I’ve been playing this game since its second edition. I’ve always been a Space Wolves player. There are games where I’ve got my butt kicked due to my bad dice rolling. So what I’ve seen people do, is try to put the most powerful units down on the table and have as many of them as they can. This leads to armies with only terminators, land raiders etc. From my experience, balanced armies will always do better in tournaments. You need numbers so you can sustain some losses. You’re always going to lose parts of your army when you play Warhammer 40,000. Some people can’t take the idea that their tank will be blown up or that there commander will be killed. The only thing that I have to say to that is, get used to it. 40k Space Wolves die sometimes and it’s just part of the game.

The majority of 40K players use space marines. This is fine, however when you decide to field four land raiders in the 2000 point game, you’re definitely cheesing it up. There is absolutely no reason to spend that many points on vehicles. Especially ones that wont make their points back. Land raiders are effective, no doubt, but to have four is overkill. I’ve heard of some space wolves players making armies of entirely Thunder Wolf cavalry. While this is legal, to me it sounds cheesy. I love my thunder Wolf cavalry, but to spend 2000 points on 15 to 18 models sounds ridiculous. If I want to play Warhammer 40,000 casually and the person I’m planning lays a cheesy army before me, I simply won’t play them. I play this game to have fun not to prove “how great I am.” People need to take this game less seriously and have fun with it like people used to in second edition. Again this is all just opinion. Thanks for reading.

There are many ways to equip Space Wolves effectively. You have to know what to use, when to attack and when to hold back. The wolves are good in close combat, but can get overwhelmed if your not careful. In this article I’ll give some general advice on how I personally equip my grey hunters, bloodclaws and longfangs. There are many ways to equip your troops, so this is not a be all end all list. You have to be flexible and understand that you may need different weapons for different enemies.

The first Space Wolves unit I’ll explain how to equip are the grey hunters. These guys can do everything well. They can be equipped for close combat and shooting roles. Give a model in the squad mark of wulfen for more close combat punch or give one model a plasma pistol and go after the enemy’s elite squads. I almost always have either two plasma guns or two melta guns in the squad. Also, I use powerfists quite extensively. I’m not a fan of power weapons as much. I tend to roll low for wounding. Another thing that can make a grey hunter squad a lot better is adding a wolfguard to the squad. You lose the ability to have two special weapons, but they will be better in close combat and have a better leadership. So mount these guys in a rhino and go blasting with four plasma gun shots a turn. This is great especially since you can move six inches with your rhino and still fire them.

Another Space Wolves unit I’ll tell you how to equip are the bloodclaws. Bloodclaws are great troops and are scary on the charge. There are a lot of different ways to equip these guys. Once again I usually add a powerfist to the squad. Power weapons are probably good to use also, based on the sheer numbers you can put in this squad. You can put up to fifteen guys in a squad! If you have fifteen in the squad you can add a second special weapon. I personally take flamers a lot. These guys have a lower weapon skill and ballistic skill than normal marines. It might not be a bad idea to take a melta gun as your second special weapon in case you come across anything with armor. They may not have as good of a ballistic skill, but it’ll give them a chance against tanks or dreadnoughts. A great hq unit to lead these guys is the wolf priest. He’ll make them fearless and give them more power weapon attacks. You can’t lose there.

The last Warhammer Space Wolves unit I’ll explain how to equip are the long fangs. These are the guys who lay down heavy fire support. The problem is you can’t move and shoot with them. So find a firing lane and start shooting. Another issue is their lack of a meat shield that other heavy support from other marine armies have available to them. This means once you take casualties your losing important models. Usually people take the pack leader out first, which takes away your ability to split fire. This can be helped by adding a wolf guard to squad that is just a basic model with no special weapons or wargear. So when you take losses, take the wolf guard first instead of the pack leader. When it comes to weapons, I like missile launchers and las cannons. Sometimes I’ll use heavy bolters or plasma cannons if I know my opponent has a horde army. It’s best to use your long fangs to support any assaults you may be doing. Besides that, tank hunting is always their specialty.

In closing, this is just some basic advice when it comes to equipping your Space Wolves army. This is obviously not a complete list, but it’s a great start. This will give you some good ideas on how to equip your squads to deal with the many threats on the battle fields of the forty first millenia. So feel free to use these ideas and always remember, mistakes are what will help you learn and will make you a much better player. All of these troops have more information available in the Space Wolves Codex.

Every army in the Warhammer 40,000 universe has some units that are very expensive, points wise in game terms. This is usually because they have higher stats and better weapons load-outs. The Space Wolves have some of the toughest elites in the game. Lone wolves specialize in taking down monstrous creatures and actually want to die doing it. Wolf scouts can show up on your enemies flank or in their deployment zone to wreak havok. Venerable dreadnoughts can lay down impressive fire and are more survivable than normal dreadnoughts. Wolfguard are your classic veterans. They can be used as leaders for individual packs or form a bodyguard for your hq’s. In this article I’ll talk about these units in more detail.

The first elite unit for the Space Wolves I’ll be talking about, are the lone wolves. These guys are the lone survivor of squads who have been wiped out. They want redemption for their fallen comrades and will do anything to fulfill this blood oath. You can put them in terminator armor or power armor. You can outfit them with a large array of weaponry as well. After the last game I played, my personal preference is give them terminator armor and a thunder hammer and storm shield. They aren’t that expensive and they can do loads of damage if put in the right place.

The next elite unit for the Space Wolves I’ll be talking about, are the wolf scouts. These guys are great! I can’t tell you how funny it is to watch people alter their entire deployment because they are afraid my wolf scouts may come in behind them. They usually do of course. No enemy tank is safe with these guys around. They can just show up in the enemy’s deployment zone and fire a melta gun right up a tank’s tail pipe. I don’t use them every game, but that doesn’t mean I won’t trick my opponent into thinking they could be. This is just part of the fun of having a Space Wolves army.

Another elite unit available to a Space Wolves player, is venerable dreadnoughts. Standard dreadnoughts are pretty tough. But venerable dreadnoughts are even tougher. Plus they give a leadership bonus to everyone near them. Another bonus is, they are harder to destroy than a normal dreadnought. These walkers can help back up any assault or defense you may be planning during a game.

The last elite unit a 40k Space Wolves player can use is, wolf guard. These troops are the elite of the elites for the wolves. They can be armed with a massive amount of different weapons. They can also be put in terminator or standard power armor. Another cool thing about these guys is, you can use them as leaders for your normal packs or as a bodyguard for your hq’s units. If you want to add a leadership bonus to your blood claws, throw a wolf guard in with them. Having more power weapons or power fists in a squad is never a bad thing.

In closing, the Space Wolves have some of the best elites in the game. All of these units are worth using in any game. Just make sure they match whatever strategy you will be using against your opponent. Lone wolves are a great choice against monstrous creature heavy armies. Scouts are good against pretty much every army you’ll play against. Venerable dreadnoughts are sure to provide lots of destruction when they are on the field. Wolf guard are flexible and dangerous as well. All of these elite units will destroy your enemies too. Just make sure you take advantage of all the different elite units of the Space Wolves. Don’t forget the Space Wolves Codex has even more information on these elite units.

. So grab your missile launcher and let’s go.

The first way that heavy support can help your Space Wolves army, is fire support. If your going to assault an enemy unit in close combat, you should probably weaken any enemy squads around it. It will keep your friendly squad from taking as much fire the next turn and will give you more of a chance to survive once your initial close combat is over. Tanks are great for this because if you can place it right, they won’t have anything nearby that can penetrate it’s armor. Always be aware of enemy heavy weapons and armor penetration weapons like melta guns, when using tanks.

Another way that heavy support can help your Space Wolves army, is taking out enemy transports. This is pretty important, especially in the first couple turns of the game. This in turn will protect your other heavy support from being overwhelmed by enemy infantry. This will allow you to engage the enemy with more mobility. You still have all your rhino’s operational at this point right? Taking out enemy transports will greatly decrease your enemy’s mobility and make it harder for him to capture or contest objectives in later turns.

The last way that heavy support can help your Warhammer Space Wolves army, is taking out their elite units. Units such as terminators and Nobz can present a real problem. One way to deal with them is lots of heavy weapons. Sometimes it may be better to switch your long fangs fire so they can hit a vehicle and those ork nob bikers that are about to charge next round. These units can hurt if they can get to you. It’s best to mow them down in piece meal before then. I usually concentrate a little more on elites once some transports of theirs are destroyed. But it all depends on the situation.

In summary, heavy support will help you in every game you use them in. Whether you want a predator tank or a squad of long fangs, heavy support is extremely important to your Space Wolves. Anytime that I’ve played without some heavy support I’ve payed the price. So learn how your heavy support can help you and it will help you become that much better of a wolflord.

have some of the toughest, hard hitting units in all of Warhammer 40,000. They are all good at shooting and most are even better in close combat. In this article I’ll talk in detail about the most common infantry units in a Space Wolves army. If you own a wolves army these units will all be familiar. If you are thinking about getting an army of the sons of Russ then it should help you even more.

The first infantry unit I’ll talk about are the grey hunters. These troops are the most common in any Space Wolves army. Some who play the game have called the grey hunters the best standard infantry in the game. These troops come with a bolter and 2 close combat weapons. This gives them an advantage over regular tactical marines of other chapters. There are other upgrades you can give to a squad of these guys to make them even better in close combat. If you want to increase their shooting damage, give them 2 plasma guns or melta guns. These guys are so flexible. This is why they are such a mainstay in an Space Wolves force.

The next common infantry unit I’ll talk about in a Space Wolves army are the blood claws. Like all space marine chapters, the wolves have specialized assault troops. The blood claws get double their attacks on the charge but have a lower weapon skill and ballistic skill. This is because they are the green troops of the army. They make up for this fact by being able to have up to 15 guys in a squad. On the charge these guys are beasts.

The third common infantry squad in a Space Wolves army are Long fangs. These guys are considered heavy support, but they are on foot a lot of the time. These guys provide you anti-tank and anti-infantry capabilities. It just depends how you arm them. They are priced pretty low in the Space Wolves Codex for what they can do on the battle field. They can also fire at two enemy units in a turn. You can’t beat that.

In closing, these are just a sample of lots of the ground troops available to a Space Wolves wolf lord. Grey hunters are a great solid unit that can fill a lot of different roles. Blood claws are a common sight in most wolves armies. Long fangs will take down tanks and infantry with ease. All these units combine to make a flexible fighting pack that can take down anything. There are other squads on foot that the wolves can take advantage of, but these are the most common infantry units you’ll see in a Everyone who starts playing Warhammer 40,000 has a big decision to make. Do I help the imperium or help to destroy it? There are many races in the game who are bent on the destruction of mankind. The greatest defenders of humanity in Warhammer 40,000 are the space marines. Also known as the Adeptus Astartes, the space marines really are angels of death. Space marines are divided into chapters of about one thousand marines each. When it comes to being barbaric and fierce no one comes close to the sons of Russ, also known as the Space Wolves. In this article I’ll talk about reasons why you should choose Warhammer 40k Space Wolves over another chapter of space marines.

The Space Wolves are fierce. This is the first reason you should choose them. How does ferocity get shown according to game rules? By being better overall in close combat. The troops choices of the wolves all have a close combat weapon and pistol as their starting wargear. This means even their standard troopers can wear enemies down in close combat. Mark of the wulfen is another ability you can give to most squads to increase their number of attacks in close combat. This ability and some others are what make the wolves so fierce.

Next, they have really cool wargear. A Space Wolves army can field troops with power weapons like most armies. But how about a power weapon that adds a +1 to you basic strength? Pretty nifty if you ask me. They also have a special version of lightning claws called wolf claws. You can pick to re-roll wounds like lightning claws, but also can choose to re-roll to hit if you want. It’s your decision. Did I mention our rune priests have rune weapons? These little pieces of wargear will tick off anyone you go against who uses psychic powers. You can’t beat an instant nullify.

The last reason to use the Space Wolves is the different unit types. In my opinion the wolves have some of the coolest units in the game. No other space marine army in the game has space marines on wolves, but the Space wolves do. Thunder wolf cavalry has become a staple on every roster sheet for tournament wolf armies. Wolf armies also have very customizable HQ choices that allow you to take on all comers. This is just a small sample of the great units available to the wolves.

In closing, the Warhammer Space Wolves are an awesome army to choose for Warhammer 40,000. They are totally fierce and fearless. Their wargear is just awesome. Did I also mention they have some of the toughest versatile units in the game? All of these reasons are great reasons to use the sons of Russ over another space marine chapter. So what are you waiting for, go get your Space Wolves Codex and get to work.

Welcome to Grey armored.com. This in reference to the armor color worn by the Space Wolves chapter of Space Marines of Warhammer 40,000. The reason I started this site was to share my wealth of wolfy knowledge with the world. I’ve been playing warhammer 40,000 since the 2nd edition of the game. So I probably started around 1996. I chose the Space Wolves because no one at my local hobby store was using them. They didn’t want to paint fur. So that’s when my journey with the Space Wolves started. I have a pretty massive force to be honest. So large in fact, I don’t think I’ll ever paint it in this lifetime. The group of friends I play with have multiple armies. I won’t use another army till I master the wolves. Which I have not done as of me starting this website. On this page I’ll talk about strategies to use against the armies that oppose the emperor and how to crush them utterly. Space Wolves Are great at crushing things. I’ll also be posting pieces I’m currently painting and how I like to paint the wolves. Simple but neat is my painting strategy. So make yourself at home and dive right in. If your looking for a way to learn How to paint Space Wolves or get great information about them, this is the page to be on. I think you’ll enjoy it here.

<span
