Space Wolves

Base coating your models

The first thing you always do before you paint your models is basecoat them. This means you put paint on the model. If you’ve ever painted a room in a house, it’s the exact thing you have to do there. Paint sticks to paint a lot better than it sticks to bare metal or plastic. All Space Wolves models will have to be based if you want them to have a nice finish. This article will tell you have to do that.

#1  Take a tooth brush or something similar to get any foreign materials off the model. This will help the model look cleaner and you won’t have to pull little objects off the model when it finishes drying.

#2 Cut off any mold lines or imperfections on the model itself. This will make the model look more seamless and just better in general. This is a step that I encourage you to do. I haven’t done it with some of my models and I regret it. You can’t go back once they have paint on them.

#3 Apply paint to the model. <–(A sample of what the model should look like is to the left )Use either white or grey. You can use black if you want a darker look. The best way to do this is buy a spray can with any of these colors. This will allow you to base many models at once. If you happen to have a friend who has a spray gun you can use shadow grey as your base color. This is easier than spraying them all white, then going over the white with shadow grey. Some people like to mix shadow grey with Space Wolves grey to get a unique color. I just go with the basic shadow grey as my base. It’s a lot easier. The goal here is to have your Space Wolves based with Shadow grey before you go onto the next step.(this is what your model will look like when covered in Shadow grey).

Once your done with these steps your ready for the next step. Which is drybrushing.
